There is a drawback to big windows

Today I was sitting on the couch upstairs, reading, when I heard something thump against the window. Upon investigation, I saw it was a pretty teensy little yellowy-green bird. I watched her for a few seconds - she was twitching, and falling over - it was just wrenching at my heart!

Finally I decided to go out on the deck to be with her, so she wouldn't die alone while I watched by. So I held her for a while, took a few photos, (of course)... and she seemed to relax, and to perk up physically. After a bit, I thought I should get her some water... I couldn't leave her on the deck on her own, because just moments before, a big old raven was tormenting the nest of starlings and certainly this little bird couldn't protect herself. So I held her in my hand and brought her in the house, put some water in an unused cat dish, got some cream of wheat, and then when I took her and the goodies out onto the deck, some of the water spilled, and then the little birdie flew off!

So I came back inside the house, washed my hands, and got out my handy "Compact Guide to British Columbia Birds". From what I can tell, it was a female "Common Yellowthroat". And I am so happy she got to live another day!

Poor little thing!

To give you an idea how tiny she is....
