Got Crabs?!

We and two other couples from our hall drove up to Kincolith on Saturday to take in part of their 3rd-annual CrabFest. The community invites bands to play live on a large outdoor stage, the native dancers perform, and vendors set up little shops where you can find a wide array of clothing, jewellery, souvenirs, trinkets, and food & drink; the highlight being the fresh-cooked crab, of course! We attended for a few hours Saturday afternoon/evening. We left shortly after 8 p.m. (though the entertainment was to go on till well after midnight) to drive back to the campground, which was about an hour away. We stayed at the Nisga'a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park campground (just outside of New Aiyansh). It's a beautiful little area to stay. We set up our tent, and I went to bed right away, but Chad and the other 4 visited around their fire for a few hours before calling it a night.

The next morning, after the other 2 sisters made an amazing breakfast -- pancakes & egg "mc"muffins -- we headed to Dragon Lake, which was really pretty. We hung around there for a while, talking & reading and stuff, before we were treated to hamburgers & corn on the cob for lunch. The other couples were going to go for a walk when Chad & I started off to head home. They were staying another night at the campground.

We saw about 6 bears during our travels, and at least 4 porcu-slimes (ill-fated porcupines who've met with vehicle tires!) The weather was gorgeous, the scenery as amazing as ever, and the association wonderful. I've posted a few pictures in my flikr albums (and there are a couple new cartoons too!) to give you an idea of how amazing it is up here in the north west!

I've never been much for "group traveling" - especially since we were in 3 separate vehicles (one of which was an RV!) - but we all had walkie talkies, so could comment back & forth on things we were seeing on the way; it was quite enjoyable, actually. All in all another wonderful weekend!

But, you wanna know the nicest part of camping? The very first shower you take once you get home! That's gotta be pretty close to THE BEST feeling in the world! :)
