Temporarily Homeless

We moved out of our rental home last Sunday (the 27th). The movers were unBEARably slow; it took them over 6 hours! Aside from admitting that their company has a larger truck than they were using, one of them had only been on the job 2 days, and so didn't have the logistics & confidence down enough to be speedy. But the most frustrating part was, we had to pay for their smoke breaks... they get paid by the hour, they smoke while on the clock. *sigh* But finally they finished, and it was good riddance to them!

So we've been staying at a brother and sister's place while the main level of our new place is being finished (which will hopefully be within the next few days). It's fine... they're so hospitable and have been so kind & generous towards us; we have internet (obviously), food, clothing (3 days' worth, so we do laundry frequently!), and comfy places to sleep. But it's still unsettled and not the same as being.. um.. home.

I'm feeling pensive and sad tonight. We just watched "Akeela and the Bee"; and I'm always affected this way by movies. All movies, regardless of genre, make me feel thoughtful and introverted. *shrug* But I think I'm mostly sad because Chad & I haven't had a lot of together time this week. He's been busy at work, and with helping at the new house; and the double bed just won't squeeze the two of us into it comfortably - so I'm on the couch, and I miss him. Plus, we had no option aside from boarding Jake at the vet's for the week; so I miss him and worry. Plus, the family's cat here apparently decided to stay outside for tonight... so I have no company; and it makes me more prone to discouraging thoughts.

On the plus side, I've taken a few great pictures this week; so once we've got our computer set up, I'll get to share them. Until then, I'll share a heartbreaking story with you (since I'm in that type of mood anyway).

There's this *adorable* little white & ginger kitten that we think lives at the house next to our rental place. And while we were there cleaning out the house this week, he was outside pouncing around and playing in the grass. So we called him over, and eventually he came to us; I petted him a bit, and Chad had the screen door open, so the little guy came into the house with us. He & Jake kind of eyed each other up, and Jake followed the little one around on his explorations, and they played and play wrestled a bit (I got a few good shots of that I'll share asap!) Anyway, we were getting ready to leave for the night, so I picked the kitten up, and was cradling him and petting him, and Chad got a few pictures. Well, all of a sudden, the little guy lets out a loud purr, and started - get this! - TRYING TO SUCKLE MY HAND! How heart wrenching is that?? Poor little thing! We decided it was really time to let him out of the house to try to find his mommy!

I'm going to turn in now... and I'll just say, there's a cat in my lap afterall!
